IPL 2017 Live Score: GL vs RCB Live Cricket Score

Royal Challengers Bangalore, irrespective of their current form and position on the table, are a team that cannot be taken lightly just for the sheer quality they possess in their line-up. They, for now, sit at the bottom of the table with just one win from five games in IPL 2017, with three of those losses coming in home games. Having played on a tricky M Chinnaswamy track Virat Kohli and his men will be slightly relieved to travel to Rajkot considering they'll be welcomed to a track full of runs, which suits their strength - batting.

Gujarat Lions too will be happy to return to their home comforts. Having registered their first win of the season against Rising Pune Supergiant in front of their home crowd, they'll carry the confidence that they can add one more to the list despite bagging three losses in four games.

Both teams are in the bottom half of the table and are in desperate need of some wins to climb up the ladder before it reaches a point of no return. And both teams have their own set of problems to deal with. While bowling has been an Achilles heel for Lions, batting has emerged as one of the concerns for Kohli's side.

Make no mistake, Kohli, AB de Villiers and Kedar Jadhav have all looked in good touch with the bat but have found little support from the likes of Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh and Shane Watson. Scores of 32 (21), 6 (8) and 22 (27) from the West Indian left-hander certainly doesn't paint a pretty picture. To add to that, the indifferent form of Watson - who has managed 61 runs in four games and has leaked 134 runs for his two wickets - have only added to the woes. Too much of batting responsibilities are being shouldered by Kohli and de Villiers at the moment and it's time others shoulder the burden too.

The bowling unit has fared better, with the likes of S Aravind and Pawan Negi stepping up to provide ample support to Tymal Mills, Samuel Badree and Yuzvendra Chahal. But RCB has tinkered with the overseas combination a lot in a bid to find the balance, which in turn has resulted in the bowling department looking far from settled.

Meanwhile, the Suresh Raina-led side too is still grappling to find a consistent bowling line-up. The same bowlers, who proved pretty effective in the last season, have struggled to come up with impressive performances and the pressure has mounted on the batsmen to give them enough cushion. Andrew Tye has been exceptional while Basil Thampi impressed with his bowling in the clash against Mumbai Indians. But the likes of Praveen Kumar, Shivil Kaushik, Shahdab Jakati, Munaf Patel and Dhawal Kulkarni have been poor, to put it mildly, in the opportunities that they've got.

On paper, Royal Challengers emerge much more formidable. Unfortunately they haven't backed their reputation with performances so far. Meanwhile, the move of not buying one or two gun bowlers in the auction is coming back to haunt Lions and they have little resources to turn things around.

When: Gujarat Lions vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, April 18, 8:00pm IST

Where: Saurashtra Cricket Association Ground, Rajkot

What to expect: Even with the peak summer approaching, fans, players, officials and those involved can expect a slightly cooler temperatures considering it's an evening clash. The track is expected to be good for batting and will offer little assistance the bowlers, something that will surely worry the Lions think-tank.

Team news:

Gujarat Lions: Aaron Finch, who missed the last clash against Mumbai because his kit didn't arrive in time, should replace Jason Roy in the playing XI. They can also look to bring in Kulkarni in place of Munaf.

Probable XI: Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (capt), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Aaron Finch, Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Andrew Tye, Praveen Kumar, Basil Thampi, Munaf Patel/Dhawal Kulkarni.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Tymal Mills, who missed the clash against Rising Pune Supergiant, should walk back in the playing XI in place of Adam Milne. It'll be interesting to see if the think-tank considers Travis Head ahead of Gayle and Watson as their fourth overseas player.

Probable XI: Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli (capt), AB de Villiers, Kedar Jadhav, Mandeep Singh, Stuart Binny, Pawan Negi, Samuel Badree, Yuzvendra Chahal, S Arvind, Tymal Mills.

What they said:

"It's always going to be tough. You can always play only four overseas players. We've got some fantastic overseas players. We've got players who can win the game on their own - the likes of McCullum, Finch and Smith. Andrew Tye played a game after many years (in the IPL) and got the hat-trick and the Man of the Match. Indian players we can play seven so we can change a bit." - Mohammad Kaif, the GL assistant coach, hinting the selection headache isn't a pleasant one.

"The thing is in the IPL we're constantly searching for the right balance. In the Mumbai game, we were down by a bowler. Shane (Watson) has been such a successful allrounder in T20 cricket for a long period of time. It's tough for everyone in T20 cricket. We know Chris (Gayle) is a very good performer and we know if he can get on a roll then we can utilise Chris in a positive manner. At this stage we are just trying to find the right balance." - Daniel Vettori, the head coach, concedes Royal Challengers are struggling to find the best playing XI.

Did you know?

- AB de Villiers scored 228 runs in three matches against GL last year - the most by a player against an opposition team in a single season.

- Shane Watson has the second lowest strike rate of 96.83 (Min 50 balls) and the third-worst economy rate of 10.31 (Min 60 balls) in IPL 2017 among all players.

- Dinesh Karthik is one dismissal away from becoming the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 dismissals in IPL.
